 "waste" 2010-01-23
By jlc16 (PA)
I've had this for less than a year. It worked great at first, and last week it just stopped working. The buttons won't respond and I can't get it to do anything. I wiped it and started over, loading all the music and reformatting it, but in vain. A little research told me that this is a common problem with this nano. Nothing you can do. It's toast. I had it for about 10 months.

 "Seems overpriced to me..." 2010-01-17

Would never buy it for myself, because Apple stuff is really only as popular as it is because of massive, expensive marketing, for which we all pay when we buy it...

Bought it for my Mom though, hoping she would use it with audio books. It's really not that easy to use for older people with all of the technical details and Itunes DRM crap. It's mostly an expensive paperweight to her...

Sorry i drank the cool-aid with the rest of the herd this time...

 "Very nice." 2010-01-15
By R. Weigel-Sterr
Cons: you MUST register with itunes for the features to work... no opt-out... and to do that you either are required to provide a credit card or a prepaid itunes card... didn't like that part at all, especially since I'd planned to start with cds we already had... why should I give you my credit card to add on some music I already own?

Cons: when you load an album with multiple singers (like duets), it doesn't link the songs together as one complete album; it separates them by artist, which makes it difficult to locate the song you actually want to hear.

Pros: don't have to buy batteries! Charge it on the computer while doing other things. (Takes 3 hours.)

Pros: this version doesn't have video capacity: especially great for young users that you'd like to keep out of trouble, as well as for people who really don't care for video.

Pros: TONS of memory! 16GB at the same price as the newer ones for 8GB... fantastic.

Pros: fairly intuitive set-up... you don't really HAVE to read the manual if you don't want to.

Pros: ? Has a few games on it that the kids quickly became addicted to, and I didn't know they'd be on there.

"Great for the 3 months it lasted" 2010-01-09
By TR19191 (Los Angeles, CA)
I was a fan of my Ipod nano (Gen 1). When it finally broke, I bought the Nano Gen 4 I had really beat up the Gen 1 and it survived a long time. I took pretty good care of the Gen 4, and loved it until it suddenly was not able to charge up after only about 3 months of service.

Since it was well within the 1 year warranty, Apple quickly shipped a package for me to put it into and I mailed it back to their repair center. To my surprise, Apple shipped it back with a form letter stating that I had misused it and checked off a box that I had either exposed it to some form of contamination or immersed it in some sort of fluid (magically without tripping the immersion indicator). I know I had not done either of those, unless you consider normal dust as a contamination or air as a fluid.

(As a further slap in the face, the bottom of the form letter said that I would be charged $100 if I shipped it back to them again.)

I have switched to another player.

"Finally converted to MP3 after almost 40 years" 2009-09-08
By Paul Bellocq (Slidell, LA USA)
Since I am not a young gadget geek, I will give you my brief musical collecting background. I started out on vinyl in 1971. I gleefully made home made 8-track tapes for my car, then upgraded to casettes for the road. In 1989, a new album was released only on CD. I nearly cried, since my vinyl days were over, but I gave in and bought my first CD. Over the next 20 years, I invested a small fortune in my beloved CD collection. I absolutely refused to download "inferior" MP3 files. The more everyone kept telling me that CD's were a thing of the past, the more I bought them up as if there were no tomorrow. I still say to this day that I can afford the original CD copy and not a cheap MP3 copy. Since I don't want anything to happen to my beloved CD collection, I made my own customized essential favorites for the road, which numbers about 200. If they melt in the hot car in the summer, I just burn another one. If a hurricane threatens again, I just take the box of essentials with me and pray that my originals all survive (I filled up the back of my truck with my originals for one evacuation and swore to never do that again). Now that I have an iPod, I regret being so stubborn. You get the picture!

Well, I bought this new car back in April. To my chagrin, the CD player was defective and I could not bring my beloved music along for seven weeks until the player was replaced. It did have an iPod jack, so out of necessity, I broke down and bought a 16GB Black Nano to cover me in the meantime. The car needed a special cable from the dealer for an extra $30, so I begrudgingly coughed up more money. Well, my new iPod now contains 3151 of my favorite songs and is controlled entirely from the knobs of my 170 watt car stereo and steering wheel controls. The special dealer cable also charges up the iPod while I drive. It never needs to leave the car anymore and the very best of my music collection is at my fingertips. I ripped every single song from my own collection and never downloaded one single song. Yes, this took me a couple of months, but it was worth it. (If it were to get stolen from my car, there are NO song titles because I already know what they are!!...all I need is Artist, Genre, and Essential Volume Number)

As for the special "wow, check this out" features, I have absolutely no use for them. I would venture to say that for what I am using my iPod for, that I could have saved about $50 if a "bare bones" Nano were available without all of the cutesy stuff that I never need, like Playlist and Genius and turning it sideways for a different view. I am not impressed with this kind of stuff. As for earbuds, PLEASE..this is a throwback to the Walkman days of casette players. I also have no need for a charger of any kind, since my car does it all for me. It did "die" on me one night when iTunes hiccuped while loading more files, but was able to be saved when it dropped into low battery mode the next morning.

Since my iPod is now at full capacity, I will probably buy one more 16GB Nano in a different color. Theoretically, I would never run out of space for my needs. Taking along every single song that I own is also not advisable. Let's face it. I am sure that I am not the only one who rapidly skips over Trampled Underfoot when playing anything by Led Zeppelin. Leave all of the bad songs off from your iPod and just load it up with the good ones!

"Ipod fine but warranty program poor" 2009-09-07
By Tuthill (Aiken, South Carolina)
So far so good. This is the sixth ipod my husband I have owned over the years. We use them primarily for listening to audio books and podcasts. They work well and are elegant. An ongoing disappointment is that they are not particularly durable (hence the high number of ipods owned) and Apple does an unacceptable job of standing behind their warranty. We have purchased the extended warranties in the past, but I will not purchase another warranty. We have sent four ipods back to ipod and they have returned them to us on the basis that they were dropped in water (not true), that moisture had got into the case or the outer case showed damage (we had not opened it and invalidated the warranty). I like Apple products, but am very unsatisfied with the warranty backup.

By Joseph Miraglia (Romeoville IL)
I like my new nano. It holds more songs then my older model. I still can use my old charger, I just take it off the base. I can still use my car hook up. Some people complain that that couldn't use their old hookups because of the new stye. It still has the same type of connector. It also has a bigger screen.

 "Don't buy this product" 2009-09-03
By Eagle Rock Tracy (Los Angeles, CA USA)
This headset is cheap and it's not even worth the really cheap price. The stereo sound was uneven right from the start, and the right earbud began intermittent transmission within a day of use. Not worth having at all! After a day, I walked into the AT&T store and paid $20 for a decent headset and have been happy since.

"You can hear them, they can't hear you" 2009-08-17
By Newton North (Boston, MA)
While the product looks nice and you can hear the folks you call just fine- they can't hear you. As a result, all you'll hear from the people you call is "hello? hello? Is anyone there?". This being the case, I'd recommend skipping this item. The price is right, but as the cliche goes, you get what you pay for. If you pay very little- you get even less.

By Merlin T. Curry (Portland, OR)
Exactly what you would expect for the price. They are VERY cheap pieces of junk. Sound quality - horrible. Durability - weak. I gave them a second star because of the price. If you're trying to get SOME functionality for the absolute cheapest price, these are for you. If you appreciate any degree of quality in the product you buy, these are not for you.

"Did not last a week ! Weak cable conection." 2009-07-31
By Michael Lohse
The sound is ok for the price but not more than just ok. The Mic button is helpful for Iphone / Ipod Start and Stop of songs. But cable broke inside close to conector and one earphone went dead in a week. Just bought some Sony on eAR Headphone MDR V 150 for 20 US and the Sound is very enjoyable. There you recognize that the On-Ear Headphones produce much nicer sound than the In-Ear Buds. ( as far as I can tell from this expierience)

I also wanted something for plane travel to cut out noise , the earbuds simply dont, you end up turning volume up and pushing them deeper into your ear, with the result that your ear start hurting after a short while.

I dont want to damage my ears nor spend a fortune on those things .

Result On Ear Sonys for Music enjoyment at home etc. great (just not for jogging, and they dont have a Mic or Button to stop songs.. which could be handy.)

I heard the Bose once in the store, obviously a different tecnology of surround sound at a 138 US $ is a different pricerange..But I hear you cant turn this effect off, if you listen to audiobooks..

Anyway I thought if I dont like the Sonys I can still give them to my kids, now I think I will have to buy them a pair as well. ..

Apple iPod shuffle 4 GB Silver (3rd Generation) NEWEST MODEL

Buy Cheap Apple iPod shuffle 4 GB Silver (3rd Generation) NEWEST MODEL

Buy Low Price From Here Now

The third-generation iPod shuffle is the talk of the music world. Not just because it's incredibly small--half the size of the previous generation. And not just because it holds up to 1,000 songs and supports multiple playlists. It's the talk of the town because it's the only music player in the world that talks to you. The new VoiceOver feature lets iPod shuffle tell you what song is playing and who's performing it. It also tells you the names of your playlists. With VoiceOver--and with the controls conveniently located on the earbud cord--it's even easier to navigate your music. You can do it without taking your eyes off your run, your ride, or whatever you're doing.

The iPod shuffle 3G is the first music player that talks to you. Click to enlarge.

The iPod shuffle 3G: The First Music Player That Talks to You

World's Smallest Music Player

Ultra-Compact, Ultra-Sleek
Its compact, anodized aluminum design is nearly half the size of the previous iPod shuffle and smaller than a AA battery. But don't be fooled by its diminutive nature. It might be small on the outside, but it holds a lot on the inside. With iPod shuffle now available in 4 GB capacity, you can take up to 1,000 songs with you anywhere. And with the controls located where you can quickly access them, it's also easier to use.

Most Wearable
The iPod shuffle comes with a brilliant stainless steel clip that lets you securely wear your music no matter where you are. Clip it to your workout gear when you're at the gym. Clip it to your backpack or belt when you're on the go. If you want, you can even clip it out of sight. Whether you're walking, running, cycling, or skiing, you'll always have your favorite songs and playlists with you.

Your Music Library to Go

Store More Music
It's hard to believe that something so small could carry so much music. But now that the iPod shuffle has 4 GB, you have plenty of room to store up to 1,000 songs. Load up all the music you want, and hit the road for as long as you like. Slide the switch to "Shuffle," and get ready for the most unpredictable ride of your life. Or slide the switch to "Play in Order" to hear your playlists from start to finish.

Multiple Playlists
You've probably made multiple playlists in iTunes. You have one for your commute, another one for the gym, and then a few more for just chilling out. Now, with the iPod shuffle 3G, you can sync them all and take them wherever you go. Up to 4 GB gives you plenty of room to hold a playlist for every occasion--which means you'll always have the perfect mix to match your activity or mood. And with VoiceOver telling you the name of each playlist, you can easily switch between them and find the one you want. You also can have audiobooks and podcasts on your iPod shuffle. Audiobooks will be put into separate playlists automatically, and podcast episodes will be grouped together in a Podcasts playlist.

Nearly half the size of the previous iPod shuffle and smaller than a AA battery. Click to enlarge.

Includes Apple earbud earphones with remote and mic as well as an iPod shuffle USB cable. Click to see how controls work.

Easy Access Controls
You'll find controls for the new iPod shuffle in two locations. On the right earbud cord, you'll find the controls that let you interact with your music. And on the top of the iPod shuffle, there's a switch that lets you choose to shuffle, to play your songs in order, or to turn off your iPod shuffle.

Using the Apple Earphones with Remote
All the controls you need to interact with your music--adjusting volume, changing songs, switching playlists, and hearing song titles and artist names--are built into the Apple Earphones with Remote. You control the iPod shuffle by pressing the top, center, or bottom button on the control. This makes it easy to navigate your music and activate the VoiceOver feature, without taking your eyes off what you're doing.

The first time you set up VoiceOver on your computer, iTunes automatically downloads and installs the VoiceOver Kit. Click to enlarge.

Three-Way Switch
The new iPod shuffle now has a stainless steel switch with three positions that let you choose how you want to listen to your music. Slide it to the left to shuffle your songs. Slide it to the middle to play your songs in order. Or slide it to the right to turn everything off.

Also, an LED on the top of the iPod shuffle displays such things as syncing and battery status.

Introducing VoiceOver
VoiceOver is the exciting new feature that makes iPod shuffle the first music player that talks to you. It entirely changes the way you browse and navigate your music. Say you're listening to a song and want to know the title or the artist. With the press of a button, VoiceOver tells you--without interrupting your music. But the fun doesn't stop with songs. For the first time ever on an iPod shuffle, you can have multiple playlists, and VoiceOver announces their names, too. So you can easily find the right mix without taking your eyes off your run, your ride, or whatever you're doing.

How It Works
A lot of work has gone into creating an iPod shuffle that not only talks, but says the right things. It all begins with iTunes and its seamless integration with iPod. iTunes reads your song information, then uses the new VoiceOver Kit to generate the announcements for the songs, artists, and playlists on your iPod shuffle. You'll hear different voices depending on what type of computer system you use when you sync your iPod shuffle. If you sync it with a PC or with a Mac running Mac OS X Tiger, you'll hear the English voice included in the VoiceOver Kit. And since Mac OS X Leopard already has an amazing English voice built in, that's the one you'll hear when you sync your iPod shuffle with a Mac running Leopard.

Multiple Languages
Your music library may have songs from all over the world--a love song from France, a bolero from Spain, a pop tune from Japan. Luckily, VoiceOver speaks in 14 languages. iTunes automatically selects the language and best voice for your song titles and artist names. It looks at song data, like the title, artist, and album information, then applies intelligent algorithms to choose the right language. For example, iTunes recognizes the song "Ya Viene el Sol" by Ozomatli as a Spanish song, so your iPod shuffle will automatically speak that song title and artist name in Spanish. If you'd prefer to hear song titles and artist names spoken in a specific language, you can change the designated VoiceOver language in iTunes. Just select one or more songs, choose Get Info from the File menu, and then select the VoiceOver language in the Options pane.

Environmental Status Report
iPod shuffle embodies Apple's continuing environmental progress. It is designed with the following features to reduce environmental impact:

  • Brominated flame retardant free

  • PVC free

  • Highly recyclable aluminum enclosure

  • Smaller, more compact packaging (40% smaller, 33% lighter)

VoiceOver Kit
The first time you set up VoiceOver on your computer, iTunes automatically downloads and installs the VoiceOver Kit, which enables your iPod shuffle to speak in 14 different languages:

By Tracey
Why waste your cash when you can get Top of the range Ipod for $10 or less!

If you fancy this item but can't afford it with the credit crunch then look no further.

It really is this simple:

1)Go to bestofgadgets.eu (copy and paste the link) and sign up.

2)Complete ONE of the offers. (I recommend the Intuit 30 day Trial one as it's F R E E!!! or even King which is $5)

3)Then wait for your iPod to arrive. mine arrived within 2 weeks.

CNN approved this on there newsnight.

There are loads of different gifts to choose from!

So what are you waiting for visit bestofgadgets.eu (copy and paste)

 "useless" 2009-09-05
By Jess (Virginia)
The sound and playlist feature were great, when I was constantly holding the earphones in and could appreciate it!! however the earphones were horrible. They didn't stay in my ear for more than 3 seconds at a time (while sitting fairly motionless reading a book). On top of that you can't use other earphones with it because the controls for the device are on the headphone wire. So, basically the whole thing was unusable.

 "Ackward iPOD control button" 2009-09-05
By H. Ling
The position of the control is too close to ear bud. In order to make changes, you often have to take the ear bud out to do it. This design is a step backward compares to earlier generations of iPODs.

"Excellent provided you own adaptor for your earphones" 2009-09-04
By A. Altman (San Carlos, California United States)
Now that Scosche has produced Tapline and Tapstick, we have our choice of means to use ANY earphones with this generation shuffle. I use my Westone UM3x earphones with Tapline and the new shuffle and could not be happier. It sounds great, easy to use, tiny little ipod with 4 Gig's making all that great music!

Without the adaptors to use my favorite earphones, I have no use for this shuffle at all.

Yeah the adaptors add expense - $20 for Tapline or $30 for Tapstick - but it's not all that much money in the scheme of things. 4 Gig!

Fun.

 "Disappointed" 2009-09-02
By Lawrence G. Stevens (Hendersonville, NC United States)
The software wouldn't allow me to download more than one podcast or audiobook at a time. I sent it back for a refund.
