 "Sounds fantastic!" 2009-08-31
By S. Epstein (D/FW, TX USA)
This little radio has big sound, thanks to the ported speakers.

The dual alarms are simple to use, but setting the alarm and clock requires spinning a dial through the minutes as you can't set the hour and minutes separately. My finger slips from the spinning dial while doing this - very tiresome.

My Nano 4th generation sounds great, but when I remove it from the dock, the adapter always comes out with it. I like having several levels of brightness to choose from, but I am sensitive to the light, and it is still a bit too bright at the lowest setting. I can "sleep" to a volume independent from the alarm volume - this is very nice. The remote works well, but will take some time to learn the buttons. FM tuning is pretty good; we have horrible reception at home, but this works ok after fiddling with the wire antenna.

I was sure that the description and the instructions indicated this radio sets the time by itself, but I did not see this happen and had to set time manually.

The black plastic cabinet is glossy, and I expect it will gather lots of dust in my two pet home. The iP99BR is more mat-finish, and looks a bit more classic, in person. I don't believe it has the cellular shielding this one has, though. Otherwise, they seem to be quite similar in feature and sound.

The main selling point for this radio is the sound quality. The other features are nice, too. Amazon.com shipped on August 26, and it arrived on August 27th! How'd they do that?

Very pleased with product. Easy to set up; sound is very good. Remote is small, making the icons hard to read for some of us, but works just fine. Problem issues thus far: have found alarm difficult to set up (instructions not clearly written); inserts provided don't fit my ipod. All things considered, would purchase again and do recommend.

 "Excellent Product" 2009-08-20

I had some trepidation about buying this product because of complaints I'd seen about crappy radio reception. However, having used it for several weeks now, I can safely say that the radio works perfectly for FM, and I picked up some strong AM signals without even needing the separate AM antenna (I didn't try it with the antenna since who wants to listen to AM radio anyway?) I don't hear any interference from the iPhone even when it's not in airplane mode, so it's shielding works well. The display's brightness is highly adjustable which is really nice since it's maximum brightness lights up the room at night. It has pretty good sound quality, much better than some clock radios that I've used (not quite as good as a Bose clock radio, but for however many hundreds of dollars you save, the trade off is well worth it). The iPod's menu can be controlled with the remote, which works fairly well, although it scrolls rather slowly, which is good for fine control but bad for getting through a long list of artists to find the one you want. I have no regrets about buying this radio, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a clock radio with iPod and iPhone playback.

 "Good Companion for iPhone" 2009-08-04
By Nick Parsons (Buckingham, Bucks United Kingdom)
Before purchasing the iHome, I reviewed competing devices and concluded that the iHome was the one with the best reviews and the most/best features.

The iHpme is not perfect, but it is laden with a number of great features and certainly does the job well. The clincher for me was the ability to adjust the brightness of the display from a good daylight level to an ideal (just visible) night-time level. With such range, I wonder why an auto-sensor was not used !!

Having lived "on the road" I have used and woken to many hotel alarms. Compared to them the iHome is not the most intuitive to use, and after a couple of months, I still have to pull the manual out.

I love the inclusion of the remote control. However, I prefer remotes which have buttons of a different shape and color and which are laid out "logically". Those on the iHome are way too small, and the graphics/titles unreadable in low light.

With these considerations, I recommend this product to others.

 "Good so far but..." 2009-07-28
By R. Light (Oakland, CA United States)
I just received my iP9 yesterday and mostly I'm very happy with it. I don't have an iPhone but I'm thinking about getting one so I thought I'd buy the radio that works with iPods or the iPhone. I'm very happy with the sound quality and the radio reception. It's definitely a few steps up from my old clock radio. I also like the fact that there's a dimmer option.

My major complaint, and the reason for the 3 star review is that it doesn't come with an insert for my iPod. It comes with 3 inserts, 1 for the iPhone, 1 for the iPod touch and 1 for the Nano. I have the 80 gig iPod Video and I have to order an insert. The insert is $6 plus shipping. It's a little piece of plastic and they're charging $6? I'm annoyed that I have to get an accessory to make it work and I wish I would have known in advance.
